Fireglass. A mythical substance, indestructible, almost alive. Its creation is said to require a grisly sacrificial rite.

For Dushma, orphan and former fugitive, this legend is just one more unpleasant memory of a life she wants to leave behind. But the past is not so easily discarded. After a terrifying nocturnal encounter, it gradually becomes clear to her that the experiments of a long-dead alchemist have been successfully re-enacted. A machine is out of control beneath the streets of London, and this time the sacrifice is still to be made.
